باب صفة الصلاة - ذكر البيان بأن على المرء تطويل الركعتين الأوليين من صلاته وحذف الأخيرتين منها
Chapter on the Manner of Prayer – Clarification that the first two units should be lengthened and the last two shortened
Hadith Number: 1937
اخبرنا اخبرنا ابو خليفة ، قال: حدثنا محمد بن كثير ، قال: اخبرنا شعبة ، عن ابي عون الثقفي ، عن جابر بن سمرة ، قال قال عمر، لسعد : قد شكاك اهل الكوفة في كل شيء حتى في الصلاة. فقال: " اطيل الاوليين، واحذف في الاخريين، وما آلو من صلاة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم" . فقال: ذاك الظن بك.
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him): The people of Kufa have complained about you in every matter, even regarding the prayer. So Sayyiduna Sa’d said: I make the first two rak’ahs long and the last two rak’ahs short, and I do not fall short in following the way of prayer of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: This is what I thought of you.
