Chapter on the Manner of Prayer – Description of the prayer upon the Prophet following the salutation
Hadith Number: 1957
اخبرنا الحسن بن سفيان ، قال: اخبرنا ابو بكر بن ابي شيبة ، قال: حدثنا وكيع ، عن مسعر ، عن الحكم ، عن عبد الرحمن بن ابي ليلى ، عن كعب بن عجرة ، قال: قلنا: يا رسول الله، قد علمنا السلام عليك، فكيف الصلاة عليك؟ قال:" قولوا: اللهم صل على محمد، وعلى آل محمد، كما صليت على إبراهيم وآل إبراهيم، إنك حميد مجيد، وبارك على محمد، وعلى آل محمد، كما باركت على إبراهيم وآل إبراهيم، إنك حميد مجيد" .
Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We said, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! We have come to know how to send peace upon you, but how should we send blessings (salat) upon you? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You should say: "O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. Surely, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. And send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. Surely, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious."
