Chapter on the Obligation to Follow the Imam - Permission to lead others and lengthen the prayer
Hadith Number: 2141
اخبرنا ابو يعلى ، قال: حدثنا ابو خيثمة ، قال: حدثنا جرير ، عن الاعمش ، عن ابي وائل ، عن عبد الله ، قال: " صليت مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فاطال حتى هممت بامر سوء". قال: قيل: وما هممت به؟. قال: هممت ان اجلس وادعه.
Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I performed prayer behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He performed a long prayer, to the extent that I thought of a bad idea in my heart. The narrator says: He was asked: What did you intend? He said: I intended that I would sit down and let him continue performing the prayer.
