Section on prayer on a riding animal – mentioning permission to pray on one’s mount even if the qiblah is behind
Hadith Number: 2516
اخبرنا الفضل بن الحباب ، قال: حدثنا ابو الوليد ، قال: حدثنا ليث بن سعد ، قال: حدثنا ابو الزبير ، عن جابر ، قال: بعثني رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في حاجة، فادركته فسلمت عليه وهو يصلي، فاشار إلي، فلما فرغ دعاني، فقال: " إنك سلمت علي وانا اصلي"، وهو متوجه يومئذ نحو المشرق .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me for some task. When I came to him, I greeted him with salam while he was performing prayer. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) replied to me with a gesture. When he finished the prayer, he called me and said: When you greeted me, I was performing prayer. (The narrator says) At that time, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was facing towards the east.
