Section on Night Prayer - Mention of the Prophet (peace be upon him) asking Allah at verses of mercy and seeking refuge from the Fire at verses of punishment during night prayer
Hadith Number: 2605
اخبرنا محمد بن عمر بن يوسف ، قال: حدثنا بشر بن خالد العسكري ، قال: حدثنا محمد بن جعفر ، عن شعبة ، عن الاعمش ، عن سعد بن عبيدة ، عن المستورد بن الاحنف ، عن صلة بن زفر ، عن حذيفة ، قال: " صليت مع النبي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ذات ليلة، فما مر بآية رحمة إلا وقف عندها فسال، ولا مر بآية عذاب إلا وقف عندها وتعوذ" .
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I performed prayer one night behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and whenever he reached a verse mentioning mercy, he would pause there and ask for that mercy, and whenever he recited a verse mentioning punishment, he would pause there and seek refuge from that punishment.
