Section on the funeral prayer – A narration that may seem to contradict the first two mentioned
Hadith Number: 3060
اخبرنا الفضل بن الحباب ، قال: حدثنا ابو الوليد ، قال: حدثنا شعبة ، عن عثمان بن عبد الله بن موهب ، عن عبد الله بن ابي قتادة ، عن ابيه ، ان رجلا اتي به النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، ليصلي عليه، فقال: " صلوا على صاحبكم فإن عليه دينا"، فقال ابو قتادة: انا اكفل به قال:" بالوفاء؟" قال: بالوفاء، فصلى عليه صلى الله عليه وسلم، وكان عليه ثمانية عشر، او سبعة عشر درهما .
Abdullah bin Abu Qatadah narrates from his father: The body of a man was brought to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) so that he (peace be upon him) could perform his funeral prayer. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: You people perform the funeral prayer of your companion, for he is under debt. So Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I take responsibility for it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: The full payment? He replied: The full payment. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) performed the funeral prayer of that person. The narrator states: That person owed eighteen or perhaps seventeen dirhams.
