Section on the funeral prayer – Recommendation to recite Al-Fatiha when praying over the deceased
Hadith Number: 3072
اخبرنا محمد بن شعيب البلخي ، قال: حدثنا منصور بن ابي مزاحم ، قال: حدثنا إبراهيم بن سعد ، عن ابيه ، عن طلحة بن عبد الله ، قال: شهدت ابن عباس ، صلى على جنازة فقرا بفاتحة الكتاب، فلما انصرف، قلت له: اتقرا بفاتحة الكتاب؟ قال:" نعم يا ابن اخي، سنة وحق" .
Talha bin Abdullah narrates: I was present with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) when he recited Surah Al-Fatihah while performing a funeral prayer. When he finished the prayer, I asked him: Did you recite Surah Al-Fatihah? He replied: Yes! O my nephew! This is Sunnah and the truth.
