Chapter on Expiation – On Clarifying That the Prophet Commanded Ka’b ibn Ujrah to Offer the Expiation After Shaving His Head
Hadith Number: 3980
اخبرنا ابو خليفة ، قال: حدثنا إبراهيم بن بشار الرمادي ، قال: حدثنا سفيان ، قال: حدثنا ايوب السختياني ، عن مجاهد ، عن عبد الرحمن بن ابي ليلى ، عن كعب بن عجرة ، قال: مر بي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بالحديبية، وانا اوقد تحت قدر لي، او تحت برمة لي، والقمل يتهافت على وجهي، فقال: " اتؤذيك هوامك يا كعب؟"، قلت: نعم يا رسول الله، قال:" فاحلق راسك وانسك نسيكة، او صم ثلاثة ايام، او اطعم فرقا بين ستة مساكين" .
Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: During Hudaybiyyah, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by me while I was lighting a fire under my cooking pot (the narrator is unsure about one word here), and lice were falling on my face. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: O Ka'b! Are the lice troubling you? I replied: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Shave your head and offer a sacrifice, or fast for three days, or feed six needy people one sa' (measure) each.

اخبرنا ابو خليفة في عقبه، قال: حدثنا إبراهيم بن بشار ، قال: حدثنا سفيان ، عن ابن ابي نجيح ، عن مجاهد ، عن عبد الرحمن بن ابي ليلى ، عن كعب بن عجرة ، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، مثله إلا انه قال:" اذبح شاة".
Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah narrates a similar narration from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): however, in this narration, the words are: "You should slaughter a goat."
