Chapter on Etiquette of Sleep – On praising Allah for granting life after sleep
Hadith Number: 5532
اخبرنا ابو خليفة ، قال: حدثنا مسدد بن مسرهد ، عن يحيى القطان ، عن سفيان ، عن عبد الملك بن عمير ، عن ربعي ، عن حذيفة ، قال: كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم " إذا اوى إلى فراشه، قال: اللهم باسمك احيا، وباسمك اموت، وإذا استيقظ، قال: الحمد لله الذي احيانا بعدما اماتنا وإليه النشور" .
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would go to bed, he would recite: "O Allah! In Your name I live (i.e., wake up) and in Your name I die (i.e., sleep)." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would wake up, he would recite: "All praise is for Allah, who gave us life after causing us to die (i.e., sleep), and to Him is the return."
