Section on Animals – On the prohibition of branding animals on the face
Hadith Number: 5625
اخبرنا عبد الله بن محمد بن سلم ، قال: حدثنا حرملة بن يحيى ، قال: حدثنا ابن وهب ، قال: اخبرني عمرو بن الحارث ، عن يزيد بن ابي حبيب ، ان ناعما ابا عبد الله مولى ام سلمة حدثه انه، سمع ابن عباس ، يقول: إن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم راى حمارا موسوم الوجه، فانكر ذلك، قال: " والله لا اسمه إلا اقصى شيء من الوجه، فامر بحماره، فكوي في جاعرتيه، فهو اول من كوى الجاعرتين" .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a donkey that had been branded on its face, so he disapproved of this. He said: "By Allah, I will brand it on the part of its body that is farthest from its face." Then the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered regarding that donkey, so it was branded on its thighs. This was the first animal to be branded on its thighs.
