كِتَابُ العَدْوَى وَالطِّيَرَةِ وَالفَأْلِ
Book of Contagion, Omens, and Good Signs
ذكر الزجر عن قول المرء بالعدوى والصفر الذي كان يقول به أهل الجاهلية-
Warning against belief in contagion and "safar" as in pre-Islamic times
Hadith Number: 6116
اخبرنا محمد بن الحسن بن قتيبة ، قال: حدثنا حرملة بن يحيى ، حدثنا ابن وهب ، قال: اخبرنا يونس ، عن ابن شهاب ، عن ابي سلمة ، عن ابي هريرة ، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " لا عدوى، ولا صفر، ولا هامة"، فقال الاعرابي: يا رسول الله، فما بال الإبل تكون في الرمل كانها الظباء، فيجيء البعير الاجرب، فيدخل فيها فيجربها؟ قال:" فمن اعدى الاول؟" .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There is no reality in contagion, Safar, and Haamah." A Bedouin asked: "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! What about the camels? They roam in the desert like deer, then a mangy camel comes and joins them, and it makes them all mangy." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked: "Who caused the first one to have mange?"
