Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) began to observe continuous fasting (sawm wisal) in Ramadan. Some of his companions also started to observe continuous fasting. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If this month had been longer, I would have continued to observe continuous fasting for such a period that those who exert themselves excessively would abandon their excessiveness. I spend such time that my Lord gives me food and gives me drink.
