Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "It is obligatory upon every Muslim to perform ghusl after seven days — and if he has perfume, he should apply it."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Sa‘id (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate that we heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:“Whoever performs ghusl on the day of Jumu‘ah, uses the miswak, and if he has perfume, he applies it, and wears his best clothes, then comes to the mosque and does not step over people’s necks, then performs as many voluntary prayers as Allah wills, then when the Imam arrives he remains silent until the prayer is completed, then this Jumu‘ah will be an expiation for the sins committed between this Jumu‘ah and the previous Jumu‘ah.”Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: And it will be an expiation for three more days’ sins, for indeed Allah gives tenfold reward for a good deed.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever performs ghusl on Friday and performs it well, then wears his best clothes, then applies oil from what is available at home as much as Allah has destined for him, or applies his perfume, then (comes to the mosque and) does not separate two people sitting together, Allah Almighty forgives the sins committed between this Friday and the previous Friday." Sa'id Maqburi says that I narrated this hadith to 'Ammarah bin 'Amr bin Hazm, so he said that Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) has spoken the truth, and three more days of sins will also be forgiven.

Imam Abu Bakr, may Allah have mercy on him, says that this hadith is narrated by Sa'id al-Maqburi from his father, while Janab Bundar narrated to us that I memorized these words from his mouth, "wa 'an abihi"—meaning this narration is reported by Sa'id al-Maqburi and his father from the same teacher. And in my view, this is a mistake, while the correct thing is that this narration is reported by Sa'id al-Maqburi from his father.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon on the day of Jumu'ah, and he saw the companions wearing striped (dirty and worn) clothes. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no harm for any one of you, if he has the means and ability, to set aside a (clean and neat) set of clothes for Jumu'ah, other than his work clothes."

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a cloak which he would wear on the days of Eid and on Fridays.
