Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would not raise his hands for any supplication except for the supplication of Istisqa (prayer for rain), and in Istisqa he would raise his hands so much that the whiteness of his armpits would become visible.

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that once, during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), there was a drought. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was delivering a sermon when a Bedouin said, "O Messenger of Allah, the animals have died and the families are suffering from hunger. Pray to Allah for us." The Prophet (peace be upon him) raised both his hands. At that time, there was not a single cloud visible in the sky. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, he had not yet lowered his hands when clouds, like mountains, gathered, and before he had even descended from the pulpit, I saw that rainwater was dripping from his blessed beard. That day, and continuously until the next Friday, it kept raining. (On the second Friday) the same Bedouin stood up again, or it is said that another person stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, the buildings have collapsed and the animals have drowned. Pray to Allah for us." The Prophet (peace be upon him) raised both his hands and prayed, "O Allah, now let the rain fall elsewhere and withhold it from us." Whenever the Prophet (peace be upon him) pointed with his hand towards any direction for the clouds, the sky would clear in that direction. The whole of Madinah became like a pond, and the canal of Qanat flowed for a month, and those coming from the surrounding areas also reported abundant rainfall in their regions.

Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a cloud from which rain was expected, he would sometimes move forward, sometimes backward, sometimes enter the house, and sometimes come outside, and the color of his blessed face would change. But when it started to rain, this state would no longer remain. Once, Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) asked him about this, so he replied: I do not know, perhaps this cloud is like the one about which the people of ‘Ad said when they saw a cloud coming towards their valleys, they said:“This is a cloud that will bring us rain.”(No), rather, in reality, this is what you were asking to be hastened—a wind in which is a painful punishment.
