Bashir bin Yasar, the freed slave of the Ansar, narrated from Rafi’ bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sahl bin Abi Hathmah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Abdullah bin Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) and Muhayyisah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) came from Khaybar and separated from each other in a date orchard. Abdullah bin Sahl was killed there. Then Abdur Rahman bin Sahl and the two sons of Mas’ud, Huwayyisah and Muhayyisah, came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and spoke about the case of their murdered companion (Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him). First, Abdur Rahman wanted to speak, who was the youngest among them. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said,“Give precedence to the elder.”(Yahya, who is a narrator in the chain, explained that this means the elder should speak.) Then they spoke about the case of their companion. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“If fifty (50) men among you swear an oath that Abdullah was killed by the Jews, then you will be entitled to the blood money.”They said,“O Messenger of Allah! We did not see it ourselves (so how can we swear about it)?”The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said,“Then the Jews will be acquitted by making fifty of their men swear an oath.”They said,“O Messenger of Allah! They are disbelieving people (how can we trust their oath)?”So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) himself paid the blood money to the heirs of Abdullah bin Sahl. Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that among the camels (which the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, gave them as blood money), I caught hold of a she-camel, she entered the herd, and she kicked me.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that eight people from the tribe of ‘Ukl came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and pledged allegiance to Islam. Then the climate of Madinah did not suit them and they fell ill, so they complained about this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them,“Why don’t you go with our shepherd to his camels and drink the milk and urine of the camels?”They said,“Why not.”So they went out and drank the milk and urine of the camels and became healthy. Then they killed the shepherd of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and drove away the animals. When this news reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he sent people in pursuit of them. They were caught and brought back. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that their hands and feet be cut off and their eyes be branded with hot irons, then they were thrown out in the sun until they died.

Narrated Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): In the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), a Jew committed an injustice against a girl; he snatched the silver jewelry she was wearing and crushed her head. The family of the girl brought her to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) while she was in her last moments of life and unable to speak. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked her, "Who killed you? Was it so-and-so?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) mentioned the name of a person unrelated to the incident, and she indicated with her head, "No." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, "Was it so-and-so?" and the girl indicated with her head, "Yes." (After this, the Jew also confessed to the crime.) So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered for him, and his head was crushed between two stones.

Hazrat Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that a man bit another man’s hand, so the latter pulled his hand out of the mouth of the one biting him, causing the biter’s two front teeth to break. Then both of them brought their dispute to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“You bite your brother’s hand like a camel bites, and now you want compensation? You will not get any compensation.”

Hazrat Ya'la bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I went with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in the army of hardship (the expedition of Tabuk). To me, this was my most reliable good deed. I also had a laborer with me. He quarreled with another person, and one of them bit the other's finger. When the other pulled his hand away forcefully, the front teeth of the biter also came out and fell. Upon this, that person brought his case to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not order any retribution for the broken teeth, but said: Would he have left his finger in your mouth for you to bite? The narrator said: I think you also said, just as a camel chews.

Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Rubai', who was the paternal aunt of Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), broke the front tooth of a girl from the Ansar. The family of the girl demanded retribution (qisas) and presented themselves before the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also ordered qisas. The uncle of Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), Anas bin Nadr (may Allah be pleased with him), said, "No, by Allah! Her tooth will not be broken." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O Anas! But the command of the Book of Allah is qisas." Then the family of the girl agreed to pardon and accepted compensation (diyah). Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that there are many servants of Allah that if they swear by Allah, Allah fulfills their oath.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The blood of a Muslim who professes the testimony "There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah" is not lawful, except in three cases: a life for a life (in retaliation for murder), a married person who commits adultery, and one who leaves Islam (apostate) and abandons the community.

Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Time has come back to its original state, as it was on the day Allah created the heavens and the earth. Behold! The year consists of twelve months, of which four are sacred. Three of them are consecutive: Dhu al-Qa'dah, Dhu al-Hijjah, and Muharram, and (the fourth is) Rajab of (the tribe of) Mudar, which comes between Jumada (al-Ula) and Sha'ban." (Then he asked:) "What month is this?" We said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." So he remained silent, and we thought that he would give it another name besides its well-known name. But he said: "Is it not Dhu al-Hijjah?" We said: "Yes, indeed." Then he asked: "What city is this?" We said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." Again, he remained silent, and we thought he would give it another name besides its well-known name. But he said: "Is it not Makkah?" We said: "Yes, indeed (it is Makkah)." Then he asked: "And what day is this?" We said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." Again, he remained silent, and we thought he would give it another name besides its well-known name. But he said: "Is it not the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm al-Nahr)?" We said: "Yes, indeed." After that, he said: "So your blood, your wealth," (Muhammad, one of the narrators, said: "I think Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) also said: 'and your honor'") "are sacred to you as this day of yours, in this city of yours, in this month of yours. And soon you will meet your Lord, and He will ask you about your deeds. So do not turn back after me as disbelievers, striking the necks of one another. Let those who are present convey (this message) to those who are absent, for it may be that the one to whom it is conveyed will remember it better than some of those who have heard it." Whenever Muhammad ibn Sirin mentioned this hadith, he would say: "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke the truth." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Have I conveyed (the message)?" He said this phrase twice.
