It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that her mukatab (contracted slave) came to her with the remaining portion of his contract. She said: After this, do not enter upon me; adhere to jihad in the way of Allah, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever’s heart is touched by the dust of Allah’s path, Allah will make the Fire forbidden for him.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I have been commanded to fight against the people until they say LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAH (there is no god but Allah). So when they say this word, they will protect their lives and their wealth from me, except by its right, and their reckoning is with Allah the Exalted. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited these verses: {فَذَکِّرْ إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ مُذَکِّرٌ لَسْتَ عَلَیْھِمْ بِمُسَیْطِرٍ} … So remind, you are only a reminder. You are not a controller over them.

Abu Ishaq says: I said to Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him): A man attacks the polytheists, is he the one who throws himself into destruction with his own hand?
Narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him), he was delivering a sermon on the pulpit when he said: I am going to narrate to you a hadith, I myself heard it from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Previously, the only thing that prevented me from narrating this hadith to you was your abundance. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Standing guard for one night in the way of Allah is better than standing in prayer for a thousand nights and fasting during their days.
