باب الصدق والأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر-
Chapter: Truthfulness, Commanding Good, and Forbidding Evil
Hadith Number: 271
اخبرنا احمد بن علي بن المثنى ، حدثنا ابو الربيع الزهراني ، حدثنا إسماعيل بن جعفر ، حدثنا عمرو بن ابي عمرو ، عن المطلب بن حنطب ، عن عبادة بن الصامت ، ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: " اضمنوا لي ستا اضمن لكم الجنة: اصدقوا حدثتم، واوفوا وعدتم، وادوا ائتمنتم، واحفظوا فروجكم، وغضوا ابصاركم، وكفوا ايديكم" .
Sayyiduna Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Guarantee me six things, and I will guarantee you Paradise: When you speak, speak the truth; when you make a promise, fulfill it; when something is entrusted to you, discharge that trust. Guard your private parts, lower your gaze, and restrain your hands."
باب الصدق والأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر - ذكر كتبة الله جل وعلا المرء عنده من الصديقين بمداومته على الصدق في الدنيا-
Chapter: Truthfulness, Commanding Good, and Forbidding Evil – Allah records a person among the truthful for persisting in truthfulness
Hadith Number: 272
اخبرنا الحسين بن محمد بن ابي معشر بحران، قال: حدثنا بشر بن خالد ، قال: حدثنا محمد بن جعفر ، عن شعبة ، عن سليمان، ومنصور ، عن ابي وائل ، عن عبد الله ، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: " لا يزال الرجل يصدق ويتحرى الصدق حتى يكتب عند الله صديقا، ولا يزال يكذب ويتحرى الكذب حتى يكتب عند الله كذابا" .
Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "A man keeps speaking the truth, and strives to speak the truth, until he is recorded with Allah as a truthful person. And a person keeps telling lies, and strives to tell lies, until he is recorded with Allah as a liar."
باب الصدق والأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر - ذكر رجاء دخول الجنان للدوام على الصدق في الدنيا-
Chapter: Truthfulness, Commanding Good, and Forbidding Evil – Hope for entering Paradise for persisting in truthfulness
Hadith Number: 273
اخبرنا ابو يعلى ، حدثنا ابو خيثمة ، قال: حدثنا جرير ، عن منصور ، عن ابي وائل ، عن عبد الله ، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم:" إن الصدق ليهدي إلى البر، وإن البر يهدي إلى الجنة، وإن الرجل ليصدق حتى يكتب عند الله صديقا، وإن الكذب يهدي إلى الفجور، وإن الفجور يهدي إلى النار، وإن الرجل ليكذب حتى يكتب عند الله كذابا" .
Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Indeed, truthfulness leads to righteousness, and indeed righteousness leads to Paradise. A man keeps speaking the truth until he is recorded with Allah as a truthful person. And lying leads to sin, and sin leads to the Fire. Indeed, a man keeps lying until he is recorded with Allah as a liar.”
باب الصدق والأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر - ذكر الإخبار عما يجب على المرء من تعود الصدق ومجانبة الكذب في أسبابه-
Chapter: Truthfulness, Commanding Good, and Forbidding Evil – The necessity of being accustomed to truthfulness and avoiding lying
Hadith Number: 274
اخبرنا عبد الله بن محمد الازدي ، قال: حدثنا إسحاق بن إبراهيم ، قال: اخبرنا جرير ، عن منصور ، عن ابي وائل ، عن عبد الله، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " عليكم بالصدق فإن الصدق يهدي إلى البر، وإن البر يهدي إلى الجنة، وإن الرجل ليصدق حتى يكتب عند الله صديقا، وإن الكذب يهدي إلى الفجور، وإن الفجور يهدي إلى النار، وإن الرجل ليكذب حتى يكتب عند الله كذابا" .
Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“It is obligatory upon you to adopt truthfulness, for truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. A man continues to speak the truth until he is recorded with Allah as a truthful person. And falsehood leads to sin, and sin leads to Hellfire. A man continues to lie until he is recorded with Allah as a liar.”
باب الصدق والأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر - ذكر ما يجب على المرء من القول بالحق وإن كرهه الناس-
Chapter: Truthfulness, Commanding Good, and Forbidding Evil – Obligation to speak the truth even if people dislike it
Hadith Number: 275
اخبرنا السامي ، قال: حدثنا خلف بن هشام البزار ، حدثنا خالد بن عبد الله ، عن الجريري ، عن ابي نضرة ، عن ابي سعيد الخدري ، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " الا لا يمنعن احدكم مخافة الناس ان يقول بالحق رآه" .
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates: The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Beware! The fear of people should not prevent anyone from speaking the truth, when a person sees that it is necessary to speak the truth here."
باب الصدق والأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر - ذكر رضاء الله جل وعلا عمن التمس رضاه بسخط الناس-
Chapter: Truthfulness, Commanding Good, and Forbidding Evil – Allah’s pleasure with those who seek His pleasure despite people’s displeasure
Hadith Number: 276
اخبرنا الحسن بن سفيان ، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن عمر الجعفي ، قال: حدثنا عبد الرحمن المحاربي ، عن عثمان بن واقد العمري ، عن ابيه ، عن محمد بن المنكدر ، عن عروة ، عن عائشة ، قالت: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " من التمس رضى الله بسخط الناس رضي الله عنه، وارضى الناس عنه، ومن التمس رضا الناس بسخط الله سخط الله عليه، واسخط عليه الناس" .
Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever seeks the pleasure of Allah along with the displeasure of people, Allah becomes pleased with him, and makes the people pleased with him as well. And whoever seeks the pleasure of people along with the displeasure of Allah, Allah becomes displeased with him, and makes the people displeased with him as well."
باب الصدق والأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر - ذكر الإخبار عما يجب على المرء من إرضاء الله عند سخط المخلوقين-
Chapter: Truthfulness, Commanding Good, and Forbidding Evil – Necessity of seeking Allah’s pleasure when people are displeased
Hadith Number: 277
اخبرنا الحسن بن سفيان ، قال: حدثنا إبراهيم بن يعقوب الجوزجاني ، قال: حدثنا عثمان بن عمر ، قال: حدثنا شعبة ، عن واقد بن محمد ، عن ابن ابي مليكة ، عن القاسم ، عن عائشة : ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: " من ارضى الله بسخط الناس كفاه الله، ومن اسخط الله برضا الناس وكله الله إلى الناس" .
Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever pleases Allah while displeasing the people, Allah becomes sufficient for him; and whoever displeases Allah to please the people, Allah hands him over to the people."
باب الصدق والأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر - ذكر الزجر عن السكوت للمرء عن الحق إذا رأى المنكر أو عرفه ما لم يلق بنفسه إلى التهلكة-
Chapter: Truthfulness, Commanding Good, and Forbidding Evil – Warning against remaining silent about the truth when witnessing or knowing evil, unless it endangers oneself
Hadith Number: 278
اخبرنا ابو يعلى ، قال: حدثنا محمد بن ابي بكر المقدمي ، قال: حدثنا خالد بن الحارث ، قال: حدثنا شعبة ، عن قتادة ، عن ابي نضرة ، عن ابي سعيد الخدري ، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: " لا يمنعن احدكم مخافة الناس ان يتكلم بحق رآه او عرفه" ، قال ابو سعيد: فما زال بنا البلاء حتى قصرنا وإنا لنبلغ في الشر.
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The fear of people should not prevent any person from speaking the truth, when a man sees it or knows that (it is appropriate to speak the truth here)." Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Trials kept befalling us continuously, until we fell short. Now we are in a bad situation.
باب الصدق والأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر - ذكر البيان بأن المرء يرد في القيامة الحوض على المصطفى صلى الله عليه وسلم بقوله الحق عند الأئمة في الدنيا-
Chapter: Truthfulness, Commanding Good, and Forbidding Evil – Clarification that one will meet the Prophet at the Pond on the Day of Judgment for speaking the truth before leaders
Hadith Number: 279
اخبرنا ابو يعلى ، قال: حدثنا هارون بن إسحاق الهمداني ، قال: حدثنا محمد بن عبد الوهاب ، عن مسعر ، عن ابي حصين ، عن الشعبي ، عن عاصم العدوي ، عن كعب بن عجرة ، قال: خرج علينا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ونحن تسعة: خمسة واربعة، احد الفريقين من العرب، والآخر من العجم، فقال:" اسمعوا، او هل سمعتم، إنه يكون بعدي امراء، فمن دخل عليهم، فصدقهم بكذبهم، واعانهم على ظلمهم، فليس مني، ولست منه، وليس بوارد علي الحوض، ومن لم يصدقهم بكذبهم، ولم يعنهم على ظلمهم، فهو مني وانا منه، وهو وارد علي الحوض" .
Sayyiduna Ka’b bin ‘Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us. We were nine people, five of whom were of one kind and four of another kind. One of these two groups was Arab, and the other was non-Arab. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Listen carefully (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words), are you listening? After me, rulers will come. Whoever goes to them and affirms their lies and helps them in their oppression, he will have nothing to do with me, and I will have nothing to do with him. He will not be able to come to my pond. And whoever does not affirm their lies and does not help them in their oppression, he will have a connection with me and I will have a connection with him, and he will be able to come to me at my pond.”
باب الصدق والأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر - ذكر رجاء تمكن المرء من رضوان الله جل وعلا في القيامة بقوله الحق عند الأئمة في الدنيا-
Chapter: Truthfulness, Commanding Good, and Forbidding Evil – Hope for attaining Allah’s pleasure on the Day of Judgment for speaking the truth before leaders
Hadith Number: 280
اخبرنا عبد الله بن سليمان بن الاشعث السجستاني ابو بكر ببغداد، قال: حدثنا علي بن خشرم ، قال: حدثنا الفضل بن موسى ، عن محمد بن عمرو ، عن عمرو بن علقمة ، عن علقمة بن وقاص ، قال: مر به رجل من اهل المدينة له شرف، وهو جالس بسوق المدينة، فقال علقمة: يا فلان، إن لك حرمة، وإن لك حقا، وإني قد رايتك تدخل على هؤلاء الامراء فتكلم عندهم، وإني سمعت بلال بن الحارث المزني صاحب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم:" إن احدكم ليتكلم بالكلمة من رضوان الله، ما يظن ان تبلغ ما بلغت، فيكتب الله له بها رضوانه إلى يوم يلقاه، وإن احدكم ليتكلم بالكلمة من سخط الله، ما يظن ان تبلغ ما بلغت، فيكتب الله له بها سخطه إلى يوم القيامة" قال علقمة: انظر ويحك ماذا تقول، وماذا تكلم به، فرب كلام قد منعني ما سمعته من بلال بن الحارث.
It is narrated about Alqamah bin Waqas. Once, a man from Madinah Munawwarah, who was a person of means (or perhaps a government official), passed by him while Alqamah was sitting in the market of Madinah Munawwarah. Alqamah said: O so-and-so! You have some rights and you have some duties as well. I have seen that you frequently go to these rulers and converse with them. I heard the companion of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Sayyiduna Bilal bin Harith Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him), narrate this: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:“Indeed, one of you says a word seeking Allah’s pleasure, and he does not realize how far it will reach, so Allah records His pleasure for him until the Day he will meet Allah. And a person says a word that incurs Allah’s displeasure, and he does not realize how far it will reach, but Allah records His displeasure for him until the Day of Resurrection.”Alqamah said: Woe to you, examine what you say and about what you speak! For since I heard this hadith from Sayyiduna Bilal bin Harith (may Allah be pleased with him), I have refrained from saying many things.
