Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says: We all set out from Madinah with only the intention of Hajj. Then, when we reached (the place) Sarif, I began menstruating. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me while I was crying, and he said:“What has happened to you, have you started menstruating?”I said,“Yes.”He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“This is something Allah has decreed for the daughters of Adam, so do what the pilgrim does, except do not perform Tawaf of the Ka’bah.”Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says (then) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) offered a sacrifice of a cow on behalf of his wives.

Interacting with menstruating woman is permissible
Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and I used to perform ghusl (ritual bath) from a single vessel while we were both in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity). During my menstruation, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would instruct me, so I would wear (tie) an izar (lower garment), then he would have physical contact with me (that is, our bodies would touch, but he would not have intercourse). And while in i'tikaf (spiritual retreat), he would extend his blessed head towards me and I would wash it, even though I was menstruating.

Menstruating woman leaving obligatory fasts
Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went out on the day of Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr and passed by a group of women (in the Eid prayer ground). He said: "O women! Give charity, for I have seen that you are the majority of the inhabitants of Hell." They asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Why is that?" He replied: "You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion who can overcome the wisdom of a resolute man than you." The women asked, "O Messenger of Allah! What is the deficiency in our intelligence and religion?" He said: "Is not the testimony of a woman equal to half the testimony of a man (according to Islamic law)?" They replied, "Yes." He said: "That is the deficiency in her intelligence. And is it not the case that when a woman menstruates, she neither prays nor fasts?" They replied, "Yes." He said: "That is the deficiency in her religion."

Lady Umm ‘Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: (During the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him) we were forbidden to mourn for any deceased person for more than three days, except for a husband, for whom mourning was prescribed for four months and ten days. During this period, we would not apply kohl, nor wear perfume, nor wear colored clothes except for ‘Asb (a type of cloth whose thread is dyed before weaving). And after purification, when any of us who was menstruating became pure, we were allowed to use a little bit of costus perfume. And we were forbidden from accompanying funeral processions.
