It is disliked to abandon night prayer if one is accustomed to it.
Narrated Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-As (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) once said to me: "O Abdullah! Do not be like so-and-so; he used to get up at night for prayer, then he abandoned getting up at night and praying."

Virtue of one who rises at night and prays.
Narrated by Sayyiduna ‘Ubada bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Whoever gets up at night and says: ‘There is no deity except Allah, He is One, He has no partner, His is the dominion and to Him belongs all praise, and He is powerful over everything. All praise is for Allah, and Allah is pure, and Allah is the Greatest, and there is no power and no strength except with Allah’s help.’ Then says: ‘O Allah! Forgive my sins,’ or makes any supplication, his supplication will be accepted. Then if he performs ablution and offers prayer, his prayer will be accepted.”

Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he began mentioning the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in his sermon, and he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) once said: "Your brother (Abdullah bin Rawahah, may Allah be pleased with him) does not utter vain things (see how he expresses truthful themes in these verses): 'Among us is Allah’s Messenger who recites to us His Book when the dawn breaks. We were blind, and he showed us the way. His word is certain, which settles in the heart. At night, he keeps his side apart from his bed, while sleep weighs heavily on the beds of the disbelievers.'"

Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) says that during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), I saw this (dream) that it was as if there was a piece of istabraq (silk cloth) in my hand, and it was as if wherever in Paradise I wanted to go, it would carry me there flying, and I saw that two persons came to me. The rest of the hadith has passed earlier. (See the Book: Description of the Night Prayer... Chapter: The Virtue of the Night Prayer, i.e., Tahajjud...)

Voluntary prayers are in sets of two rak‘ahs (and the prayer of Istikhara).
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to teach us to perform Istikhara (seeking guidance from Allah) in all matters (and with such emphasis) as he used to teach us a Surah from the Qur'an. He (peace be upon him) used to say: "When any one of you intends to do any work, he should offer two rak'ahs of prayer other than the obligatory prayer and (after the prayer) say: 'O Allah! I seek goodness from Your knowledge and I seek power from Your might and I ask You from Your great bounty. Surely, You have power and I have no power, and You know and I do not know, and You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah! If You know that this matter is good for me in my religion, my worldly life, and the outcome of my affairs, then ordain it for me and make it easy for me, and if You know that this matter is harmful for me in my religion, my worldly life, and the outcome of my affairs, then turn it away from me and turn me away from it, and ordain for me what is good wherever it may be, and make me pleased with it.'" He (peace be upon him) said: "And he should mention his need (to Allah)."

Regularly praying two Sunnah rak‘ahs of Fajr; some call them voluntary.
Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) did not observe any voluntary prayer as regularly as he observed the two rak'ahs (Sunnah) before Fajr.

What to recite in the two Sunnah rak‘ahs of Fajr.
Narrated from Ummul Momineen Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to perform the two rak'ahs before the Fajr prayer very lightly, to the extent that I would say (in my heart) whether he (peace be upon him) had even recited Umm al-Qur'an (i.e., Surah Al-Fatiha) or not.

Praying Duha (forenoon) prayer in residence.
`Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says My close friend, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), advised me regarding three things which I will not leave until I die. These three things are: (1) Fasting three days every month, (2) Performing the Duha (forenoon) prayer, (3) Sleeping after offering Witr prayer.

Praying two voluntary rak‘ahs before Maghrib.
`Sayyiduna Abdullah Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace be upon him) said: "Perform voluntary prayers before the Maghrib prayer." (He said this three times) and the third time he said: "Whoever wishes." He (peace be upon him) did not like that people should consider this as Sunnah (therefore, he gave the choice that whoever wishes may perform it and whoever wishes may leave it).
