Mukhtasar Sahih Bukhari
Envying the one who recites the Quran
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Envy is permitted only in two cases: one, for the person whom Allah has given the Qur'an and he recites it during the night and day, so his neighbor hears him and says, 'I wish I had been given what he has been given, so I would do as he does.' And the second, for the person whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it in the way of truth, then someone (out of envy) says, 'I wish I had been given wealth like so-and-so, so I would spend as he does in the way of truth.'"
The best among you are those who learn and teach the Quran
Narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The best among you is the one who learns the Qur'an and teaches it."
Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) in another narration says that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The best among you is the one who learns the Qur'an and teaches it."
Memorizing the Quran and reciting it regularly
Narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The example of the one who memorizes and recites the Qur'an is like the owner of camels tied with a rope; if he takes care of them, he will keep them, and if he neglects them, they will run away."
Narrated Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "It is bad that any of you says, 'I have forgotten such-and-such verse.' Rather, he should say, 'I have been made to forget it.' And keep reciting the Qur'an, for it escapes from the hearts of men faster than camels do."
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he said: "Keep reciting the Qur'an regularly. By the One in Whose hand is my soul! The Qur'an escapes from the hearts of men faster than a camel that breaks its rope and runs away."
Reciting the Quran with vigor
It was asked from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): "How was the recitation of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)?" He said: He used to recite by elongating (stretching the words). Then (Sayyiduna Anas, may Allah be pleased with him) recited "Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Raheem" — in it, he elongated "Bismillah" and also elongated "ar-Rahman" and "ar-Raheem" (recited them by stretching).
Reciting the Quran melodiously
Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me: "O Abu Musa! You have been given one of the sweet voices from the sweet voices of the family of Dawud."
How long to complete the Quran
`Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that my father (Sayyiduna Amr bin As) (may Allah be pleased with him) married me to a woman from a good family, and he would often ask his daughter-in-law about her husband (me), and she would reply, "Yes, yes, he is a good and pious man, but since I have come, he has never set foot on my bedding nor come near me." When a period of time had passed, (my father) mentioned this to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring him to me." I (upon being called) went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "How do you fast?" I said, "Daily." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "How do you complete the Qur'an?" I said, "Every night." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Fast three days in every month and complete the Qur'an once in a month." I said, "I have the strength for more than that." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then fast three days in a week." I said, "I have the strength for more than that." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then fast two days and break the fast one day." I said, "I have the strength for more than that." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Alright! Adopt the best fast, the fast of Dawud (peace be upon him), that is, fast one day and break the fast one day, and complete the Qur'an in seven nights." (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) says) I wish I had accepted the concession of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), because now I have become old and weak (I no longer have that strength). Then he would have one-seventh (one manzil) of the Qur'an recited to someone from his family during the day. The portion that was to be recited at night, he would repeat during the day so that it would be easier to recite at night, and when he became weak and wanted to regain strength, he would not fast continuously for several days, then, counting those days, he would make up the fasts. He disliked that any matter should remain which he used to do in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
Whoever recites the Quran to show off or for worldly gain
`Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "A people will emerge from among you such that you will consider your prayers insignificant compared to their prayers, and your fasts compared to their fasts, and your (other) good deeds compared to their deeds. And they will recite the Qur'an, but it will not go beyond their throats. They will go out of the religion just as an arrow passes out of the hunted animal, so that the hunter finds nothing on the arrowhead, nor anything stuck to the shaft, nor any trace on the feathers—just a slight doubt (if the hunter looks at the arrowhead, he sees nothing on it)."
