Who deserves best treatment?
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked, "Who is most deserving of my good companionship and kind treatment?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "Your mother." He asked again, "Then who?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Still your mother." He asked a third time, "Then who?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Still your mother." He asked a fourth time, "Then who?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then your father."
Children should not curse parents.
Narrated Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The greatest of the major sins is that a man abuses his parents." The people asked, "How can a man abuse his own parents?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "A man abuses another man's father, and that man (in return) abuses his father... and he abuses another man's mother, and that man (in return) abuses his mother."
Sin of severing family ties.
Sayyiduna Jubair bin Mut’im (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying:“The one who severs the ties of kinship (i.e., breaks family relations) will not enter Paradise.”
Whoever maintains family ties, Allah will maintain ties with him.
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The womb (rahm) is derived from the Most Merciful (Rahman). (That is, the bond of kinship is connected and joined to Allah, the Most Merciful.) Therefore, Allah the Exalted said (regarding the bond of kinship): 'Whoever joins you, I will join him, and whoever severs you, I will sever him.'"
Family ties are easily refreshed.
Sayyiduna Amr bin Al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say aloud, "The children of such-and-such a person are not among my friends, and my friend is Allah and the righteous believers. But there is kinship with them. If they maintain it, I will maintain it; if they uphold the ties, I will uphold the ties."
Returning kindness for kindness is not true maintaining of ties.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The one who maintains ties of kinship is not the one who merely reciprocates (i.e., does good only in return for good), but the one who truly maintains ties of kinship is the one who joins relations when they have been severed."
Carrying, loving, and showing affection to children.
Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) said that a Bedouin came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and said, "You kiss children, but we do not kiss them." The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, "What can I do if Allah has not placed mercy in your heart (so how can I put it there now)?"
Narrated from Amir al-Mu’minin Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that some captives were brought before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), among them was a woman whose breasts were full of milk, dripping, and whenever she found a child among the captives, she would take him to her belly and nurse him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to us:“Do you think this woman would throw her child into the fire?”We said: Never, as long as she is able, she would not throw her child into the fire. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Allah is more merciful to His servants than this woman is to her child.”
Allah's mercy is divided into one hundred parts.
Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "Allah divided mercy into one hundred parts. He kept ninety-nine parts with Himself and sent down one part to the earth. Because of this one part, all creatures show mercy to one another, so much so that a mare lifts its hoof away from its young lest it should harm it."
It is permissible to seat a child on one's lap.
‘Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) said’ (When I was a child) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would take hold of me and seat me on one thigh and Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) on the other thigh. Then he would embrace both of us and supplicate:“O Allah! Have mercy and kindness upon them, for I also show mercy to them.”
