مختصر صحيح بخاري
Mukhtasar Sahih Bukhari
Obeying the leader as long as it is not sinful.
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Listen and obey (the ruler), even if an Abyssinian slave is appointed over you as your ruler, and his head is like a raisin (i.e., very small)."
Prohibition of seeking leadership.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Soon you will covet authority and leadership, but it will be a cause of regret and shame on the Day of Resurrection. So how good is the wet nurse, and how bad is the weaner."
A leader who does not care for his people.
Narrated by Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say, "If Allah appoints a servant as a ruler over a people, and he does not look after them with sincerity and goodwill, he will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise."
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever is appointed as a ruler over Muslim subjects and then dies while acting dishonestly towards them, Allah will make Paradise forbidden for him."
Whoever burdens others, Allah will burden him.
Narrated Sayyiduna Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "Whoever performs good deeds to show off to people, Allah will expose his hidden (i.e., corrupt intention) to the people on the Day of Resurrection. And whoever puts people into hardship, Allah will put him into hardship on the Day of Resurrection." People said to him, "Give us some more advice," so he said: "The first thing to decay from a human (body) is his stomach, so whoever is able to eat pure things should do so (i.e., eat only pure and lawful things), and whoever can, should not prevent himself from entering Paradise by shedding a handful of (unlawful) blood."
Can a judge rule or give fatwa while angry?
Narrated Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say, "No judge should decide between two people while he is angry."
The scribe should be trustworthy and wise.
(Book: Regarding Jizyah, etc. ... Chapter: Making peace with polytheists over wealth, etc., and ceasing fighting (is permissible), and the sin is very severe for the one who does not fulfill the covenant. ... The detailed incident of the two persons named "Huwaisa and Muhaisa" has already been mentioned in the blessed hadith.) Here it is added that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said (at the time of judgment): "Either the Jews of Khaybar pay the blood money for your slain companion (Abdullah), or be prepared for battle."
How should the Imam take allegiance?
Sayyiduna Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to listen and obey in happiness and displeasure, and that we would not dispute with the rulers for authority, and that wherever we may be, we would speak the truth, and we would not fear the blame of any blamer in the matter of Allah.
Narrated Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that: When we pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) to listen and obey, the Prophet (peace be upon him) would say to us: "As much as you are able." (That is, you should act upon it only as much as you have the ability.)
On appointing a caliph.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked, "Why do you not appoint a successor (caliph) after you?" He replied, "If I appoint a caliph, then those better than me before me did appoint a caliph, that is, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him). And if I do not appoint (a caliph), then those better than me before me, that is, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), did not appoint a caliph."
