Regarding Allah’s saying:“They ask you about menstruation...”
Narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): Among the Jews, when a woman would menstruate, they would neither eat with her nor stay with her in the house. The companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him about this, so Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "They ask you about menstruation. Say: It is a harm, so keep away from women during menstruation" (__QUR_N__). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do everything except intercourse. When this news reached the Jews, they said: This man (i.e., Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him) wants to oppose us in every matter. Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abbad bin Bishr (may Allah be pleased with him) came and said: O Messenger of Allah! The Jews say such and such, so why should we not have intercourse with menstruating women? (Meaning, since the Jews dislike our opposition and are annoyed by it, we should oppose them thoroughly.) Upon hearing this, the color of the Messenger of Allah’s (peace and blessings be upon him) face changed. (He disliked their suggestion to have intercourse because it was against the Qur'an.) We thought that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was angry with these two persons. They got up and left. Meanwhile, someone sent milk as a gift to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he called both of them back and gave them milk to drink. Then they realized that his anger was not upon them.

How a woman performs ghusl after menstruation or janabah.
It is narrated from Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) that (the daughter of Shakl or the daughter of Yazid bin Sakan) Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about the ritual bath (ghusl) after menstruation. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: First, take water with lotus leaves and purify yourself well with it (i.e., wash and clean the menstrual blood that is present), then pour water over your head and rub vigorously so that the water reaches the roots of the hair. Then pour water over yourself (i.e., over the whole body). Then take a piece of cotton or cloth scented with musk and purify yourself with it. Lady Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) asked: How should I purify myself with it? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Subhan Allah! Purify yourself with it.”Then Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) quietly said: Apply it to the place of blood. Then she asked about the ritual bath after sexual impurity (janabah), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Take water and purify yourself well, then pour water over your head and rub so that the water reaches all the roots, then pour water over your whole body. Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: How excellent were the women of the Ansar, they did not feel shy to ask about matters of religion. (And this is necessary, because modesty is in sin and disobedience, and asking about religious matters is reward and merit.)

She said, "I am menstruating." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Your menstruation is not in your hand." Then she handed him the cloth.

Menstruating woman washing and combing man’s hair.
‘A’ishah Siddiqah, Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her), says: When I was in i‘tikaf, I would go home for a need, and as I walked, if there was anyone sick in the house, I would ask about them. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would stay in the mosque and extend his head towards me, and I would comb his hair. And when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was in i‘tikaf, he would not enter the house except for a need.

Sleeping under one blanket with menstruating woman.
‘Umm al-Mu’minin Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I was lying with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) under a sheet when suddenly I began menstruating. I slipped away and took my menstrual clothes. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Have you started your menses?”I said,“Yes.”He called me, and then I lay with him under the same sheet. The narrator of the hadith (Zaynab) said that Umm al-Mu’minin Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ghusl for janabah from the same vessel.

Intercourse above the waistcloth with menstruating woman.
Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When any woman among us would menstruate, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would order her to tie a waist-wrapper during the flow of menstrual blood, then he would have intimacy with her (that is, he would lie with his wife). Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Who among you has as much control over his desire and need as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had?

Drinking from same vessel as menstruating woman.
Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I used to drink water, then after drinking I would give the vessel to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he would place his mouth at the same spot where I had placed my mouth and drink the water, even though I was menstruating. And I used to gnaw on a bone, then give it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he would place his mouth at the same spot where I had placed mine.

About istihada (non-menstrual bleeding), bathing and praying.
‘Mother of the Believers Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that Umm Habibah bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that she was experiencing istihada (non-menstrual bleeding), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“This blood is from a vein, so perform ghusl and pray.”Then she used to perform ghusl for every prayer. Laith said that Ibn Shihab did not state that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered her to perform ghusl for every prayer, rather Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) did so herself.

Menstruating woman does not make up prayers, but makes up fasts.
Narrated from Sayyida Mu’adhah (may Allah be pleased with her):
I asked Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her),“What is the reason that a menstruating woman makes up the missed fasts but does not make up the missed prayers?”She replied,“Are you a Haruriyyah?”I said,“No, I am only asking.”She said,“We used to experience menstruation, and we were ordered to make up the fasts, but we were not ordered to make up the prayers.”(What an excellent answer: religion is the name of following the commands of Allah and His Messenger; what was commanded, we did, and what was not commanded, we did not do.)
