Eid prayer before the sermon
`Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that I went for the Eid al-Fitr prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and with Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them all), and the practice of all these elders was that they would perform the prayer before the sermon, and after that, they would deliver the sermon. Then he said, even today it is as if I am seeing that scene: the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came, signaled to the people with his hand to sit down, then, passing through their rows, he (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the women, and with him was Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: ((O Prophet, when believing women come to you to give you the pledge...)) (Surah Al-Mumtahina: 12) until he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished with it. Then he said: Have you all acknowledged all of this? One of the women said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! The narrator said: I do not know who she was. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Give charity. Then Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) spread out his cloth and said: Come, may my parents be sacrificed for you. And they all began to take off their bangles and rings and put them in the cloth of Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him).

What to recite in Eid prayers
It is narrated from ‘Ubaydullah bin ‘Abdullah that Sayyiduna ‘Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) asked Sayyiduna Abu Waqqad al-Laythi (may Allah be pleased with him): "What would the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recite in (the prayer of) Eid al-Adha and (the prayer of) Eid al-Fitr?" He replied: "He (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite (Qaf. By the Glorious Qur’an) and (The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has split)."

No prayer before or after Eid in the prayer ground
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out on Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr and performed two rak‘ahs, neither performing any prayer before it nor after it. Then he went to the women, and Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) was with him. Then he instructed the women to give charity, so some of them began to take off their rings and some their necklaces of cloves that were around their necks.

Women going out for Eid
Lady Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to take out our unmarried girls, young women, menstruating women, and women in seclusion on Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. The menstruating women should stay away from the place of prayer, but participate in the good deeds and the supplications of the Muslims. I said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Some of us do not have a cloak." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Her sister should cover her with her own cloak."

What children should say on Eid
Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting with me and two (young) girls were with me singing songs about the Battle of Bu’ath. The Prophet (peace be upon him) lay down on the bedding and turned his face away from them. Then Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came and scolded me, saying,“The music of Satan in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)?”The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) looked towards him and said,“Leave them (let them sing).”Then when they became inattentive, I signaled to them and they left. It was the day of Eid and the Sudanese (Abyssinians) were playing with shields and spears. I do not remember whether I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) or he himself said,“Do you want to watch?”I said,“Yes.”Then he made me stand behind him and my cheek was against his cheek, and he was saying,“O children of Arfada! Keep playing.”Until I became tired, then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said,“Is that enough?”I said,“Yes.”He said,“Alright, go.”
