Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim
What to say when sleeping or lying down.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin ‘Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you go to sleep, perform ablution as you do for prayer, then lie down on your right side and say:“O Allah! I have submitted my face to You, and entrusted my affairs to You, and relied upon You, out of desire for Your reward and fear of Your punishment. I have believed in Your Book which You have revealed and in Your Prophet whom You have sent. There is no refuge and no escape from You except with You.”Let these be your last words (before sleeping). (And he said:) Then if you die that night, you will die upon Islam (and your end will be good). And Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I repeated these words to remember them, and instead of“Your Prophet”(binabiyyika), I said“Your Messenger”(birasoolika), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Say“Your Prophet”(binabiyyika).
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin ‘Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would lie down on his bed, he would say:“O Allah! In Your name I live and in Your name I die.”And when he would wake up (from sleep), he would say:“All praise is for Allah, Who gave us life after causing us to die (i.e., after sleep, because sleep is also a kind of death), and to Him is the resurrection or return.”
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he instructed a man to recite at the time of sleeping: "O Allah! You created my soul and You will cause it to die. For You is living and dying. If You keep it alive, then protect it, and if You cause it to die, then forgive it. O Allah! I ask You for well-being." A person asked him, "Did you hear this supplication from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him)?" He replied, "Rather, I heard it from the one who is better than Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), that is, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."
Suhail says that when any of us was about to sleep, Abu Salih would instruct him to lie on his right side and recite this supplication: "O Allah! Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth, Lord of the Mighty Throne, our Lord and Lord of everything, Splitter of the grain and the date-stone (for sprouting), Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Noble Qur'an! I seek refuge in You from the evil of everything whose forelock You hold (that is, which is under Your control). You are the First, there is nothing before You; You are the Last, there is nothing after You (that is, You are Eternal and Everlasting); You are the Most High, there is nothing above You; and You are the Most Near (Hidden), there is nothing nearer (more hidden) than You. Remove debt from us and enrich us from poverty." Abu Salih narrated this supplication from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah narrated it from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: When one of you goes to his bed, he should dust off his bed with the inner side of his lower garment and say Bismillah, for he does not know what came onto his bed after him. And when he lies down, he should lie on his right side and say: "Glory be to You, O my Allah! In Your name I lay my side on the ground and in Your name I will rise. If You take my soul, then forgive it, and if You release it (back to my body), then protect it as You protect Your righteous servants."
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would go to his bed, he would say: "All praise is due to Allah who has fed us, given us drink, sufficed us, and provided us with shelter. How many are there who have no one to suffice them and no one to provide them with shelter."
Saying tasbih after Fajr prayer.
Narrated from Umm al-Mu’minin Juwayriya (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left her place early in the morning after the Fajr prayer, and she was sitting in her place of prayer. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) returned at the time of Duha and saw that she was still sitting there. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked,“Have you remained in the same state since I left you?”Juwayriya (may Allah be pleased with her) replied,“Yes.”He (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“After I left you, I recited four phrases three times. If they were to be weighed against what you have recited until now, they would outweigh it. These phrases are: ‘I declare the purity of Allah with His praise, as many times as the number of His creation, as much as pleases Him, as heavy as His Throne, and as much as the ink of His words (meaning, without limit, for there is no end to Allah’s words; if the sea were ink, it would be exhausted, but Allah’s words would not be finished).’”
In another narration from Sayyidah Juwayriya (may Allah be pleased with her), the words are:“Purity is for Allah as many times as the number of His creation, purity is for Allah as much as pleases Him, purity is for Allah as heavy as His Throne, and purity is for Allah as much as the ink of His words.”
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever says "Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi" one hundred times in the morning and in the evening, no one will come on the Day of Resurrection with a deed better than his, except one who says as much or more than this.
Virtue of saying tasbih.
`Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There are two phrases which are light on the tongue (on the Day of Judgment), heavy on the scales, and very beloved to Allah. They are: ((“Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi, Subhan Allah al-‘Azim”)).
`Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If I say "Subhan Allah, walhamdulillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar," it is more beloved to me than all those things upon which the sun rises. (i.e., the entire universe)
