Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim
Description of the reins of Hell.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On that day, Hell will be brought forth, it will have seventy thousand reins, and on each rein there will be seventy thousand angels pulling it (so the total number of angels pulling Hell will be four billion nine hundred million).
Intensity of Hell’s heat.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: This fire of yours which a man kindles is one part out of seventy parts of the fire of Hell. The people said, "O Messenger of Allah! By Allah, this (worldly) fire would have been sufficient (for burning)." He (peace be upon him) said: That (fire of Hell) is sixty-nine parts hotter than this, each part as hot as this (worldly fire).
Depth of Hell.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when a loud sound was heard. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do you know what that was?" We replied, "Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) know best." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "That was a stone which was thrown into Hell seventy years ago. It has been falling, and now it has reached its bottom." (God forbid, Hell is so deep that from its top to its bottom is a journey of seventy years, and that too at the speed with which a stone falls from top to bottom.)
The lightest punishment for the people of Hell.
Sayyiduna Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The lightest punishment will be for the one who will wear two sandals and two straps of fire; his brain will boil like a cauldron boils. He will think that no one is being punished more severely than him, although he will be receiving the lightest punishment.
How far the fire will reach those punished.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: For some, the fire of Hell will seize up to the ankles, for some up to the knees, for some up to the waist, and for some up to the lower part of the neck.
The arrogant will enter Hell, the weak will enter Paradise.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Paradise and Hell argued with each other. Hell said, "In me will enter those who are arrogant and powerful." Paradise said, "What is the matter with me that only those people will enter me who are weak among the people, and (in terms of the world) are lowly and humble (that is, mostly such people will be in me)." Then Allah Almighty said to Paradise, "You are My mercy; I will show mercy with you to whomever I wish among My servants." And He said to Hell, "You are My punishment; I will punish with you whomever I wish among My servants. And both of you will be filled." Thus, Hell will not be filled (nor satisfied) until Allah Almighty places His foot in it. It will say, "Enough, enough," then it will be filled, and its parts will draw close to each other. Thus, Allah Almighty will not wrong anyone among His creation, and He will create another creation for Paradise.
Punishment in Hell for one who set camels free for other than Allah.
Ibn Shihab says: I heard Sa'id bin al-Musayyib say that Bahirah is the animal whose milk is reserved for idols so that no person could milk that animal, and Sa'ibah is the one which they would set free in the name of their deities so that no burden was placed upon it. And Ibn al-Musayyib said that Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I saw 'Amr bin 'Amir al-Khuzai dragging his intestines in Hell, and he was the first to introduce the practice of Sa'ibah.
Size of a disbeliever’s molar in Hell.
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The tooth or canine of a disbeliever will be as large as the Uhud mountain, and the thickness of his skin will be the distance of a three-day journey (i.e., the stench of his skin will reach as far as one can travel in three days, or its thickness will be as much as one can travel in three days).
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The distance between the two shoulders of a disbeliever will be that of a fast rider's journey of three days.
Punishment of those who harmed others.
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There are two types of people among the inhabitants of Hell whom I have not seen. One is a group who have whips like the tails of oxen, with which they beat people. The second is women who are clothed yet naked (i.e., their clothing is not sufficient to cover their bodies), who are astray and lead others astray, and whose heads are like the humps of Bactrian camels, leaning to one side. They will not enter Paradise, nor even smell its fragrance, even though its fragrance can be perceived from a great distance.
