The Prophet (ﷺ) and his family’s hardship.
Sayyidah ‘Urwah narrates from Umm al-Mu’minin ‘A’ishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she used to say: "By Allah, O my nephew! We would see one crescent, then another, then a third, thus in two months we would see three crescents, and no fire would be lit in the houses of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) during that time." I said, "O aunt! Then what was your sustenance?" She said, "Dates and water. However, some neighbors of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) from among the Ansar had milch animals, and they would send milk to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he would give us that milk to drink."

Sayyiduna Abu Hazim says: I saw Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) repeatedly gesturing with his two fingers and saying, "By Him in Whose hand is the life of Abu Hurairah! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his family never ate their fill of wheat bread for three consecutive days, until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) departed from this world."

Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away and there were a few handfuls of barley in my container. I used to eat from it. Many days passed like this. (Then) I measured it, and it finished. (It became clear that there is more blessing in an unknown and unspecified thing.)

Sometimes the Prophet (ﷺ) did not find even poor dates to fill his stomach.
Sayyiduna Simak bin Harb says that I heard Sayyiduna Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) delivering a sermon, he was saying that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned the (wealth and riches) that people were acquiring, and then said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he would remain restless from hunger all day, and even inferior dates would not be available to him with which he could fill his stomach.

Poor emigrants will enter Paradise before the rich.
Sayyiduna Abu Abdur Rahman Hubli says: I heard from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-As (may Allah be pleased with him), and a person asked him, "Are we not among the poor emigrants?" Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Do you have a wife with whom you live?" He replied, "Yes, I have." Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Do you have a house in which you live?" He replied, "Yes, I have." Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Then you are among the rich." He said, "I also have a servant." Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Then you are among the kings." Abu Abdur Rahman said: Three men came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) while I was present with him. They said, "O Muhammad! By Allah, we have nothing available to us—neither expenses, nor ride, nor provisions." Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Whatever you wish, I will do. If you wish, come to us, and we will give you what Allah has written in your destiny. And if you wish, we will mention your case to the king. And if you wish, be patient, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'The needy emigrants will enter Paradise forty years before the wealthy.'" They said, "We will be patient and ask for nothing."

Majority of the people of Paradise are poor.
Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I stood at the gate of Paradise and saw that most of those who entered it were the poor, while the wealthy were held back for account (whereas the believing poor had already entered Paradise without reckoning), and those destined for Hell had already been ordered to Hell. And I stood at the gate of Hell and saw that most of those entering it were women.

Not desiring the world and its low worth to Allah.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed through the market and he was coming to Madinah from the direction of ‘Aliyah, and people were on one or both sides of him. He (peace be upon him) saw a dead lamb with small ears or with cut ears. He (peace be upon him) took hold of its ear, then said:“Who among you would take this for one dirham?”The people said:“We would not want it for anything, even for one dirham (i.e., in exchange for anything), and what would we do with it?”He (peace be upon him) said:“Would you like it to be yours?”The people said:“By Allah, even if it were alive, it would have a defect, as its ears are very small; then it is dead, so who would take it?”He (peace be upon him) said:“By Allah, the world is more insignificant to Allah than this is to you.”
