It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Companions of Suffa were poor people. Once, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever has food for two people should take a third with him, and whoever has food for four should take a fifth or sixth with him." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) took three people with him, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took ten people with him. Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) says that in my house, besides me, my parents (and probably my wife was also mentioned), and a servant who was shared among us, lived. That day, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) spent the evening with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When he returned at night, his mother said to him, "Where were you tonight, forgetting your guests?" He replied, "Did you not feed them dinner?" She said, "No! I brought the food before them, but they themselves refused to eat. I went and hid in a place." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) called out to me harshly, then said to the guests, "Eat, you did not do well," and swore that he would not eat the food. The guests also swore that they would not eat until Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) ate. When the matter reached this point, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "This is from Satan." Then he had the food brought, ate himself, and the guests also ate. Whenever they picked up a morsel, more was added from below, until they were all satisfied and more food was left than before. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) addressed his wife and said, "O sister of Banu Firas! What is this matter?" She said, "O coolness of my eyes! This has become three times more than the original amount." So they all ate this food and also sent some to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The narrator mentioned that there was a treaty between us and a certain tribe, its term ended, and we appointed twelve chiefs, each of whom had some people with him, whose exact number only Allah knows, but it is clear that they were also included with them, and all of them also ate from this food.

Khalid bin Salamah says that once Abdul Hameed bin Abdur Rahman invited Musa bin Talhah to the wedding feast (walimah) of his son and asked him, "O Abu Isa! With what words has the narration regarding sending blessings upon the Prophet ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) reached you?" He said, "Once I asked Sayyiduna Zaid bin Kharijah (may Allah be pleased with him) about sending blessings upon the Prophet ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ). He told me that he himself had asked the Prophet ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) this question, and the Prophet ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) replied: 'After performing the prayer with due care, say: «اَللّٰهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ» "O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) and the family of Muhammad ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim. Surely, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious."

Hazrat ‘Abbad bin ‘Abdullah says that Sayyiduna Harith bin Khuzmah (may Allah be pleased with him) brought two verses of Surah Bara’ah: from «﴿لَقَدْ جَاءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ . . . . .﴾» to the end, to Sayyiduna ‘Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Who is a witness with you to this? He replied: By Allah! I do not know about that, but I testify that I heard these verses from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and memorized them. Sayyiduna ‘Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I also testify that I too heard them from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he said: If these were three verses, I would have counted them as a separate surah. Now, look at any surah of the Noble Qur’an and place these two verses in it. So I placed them at the end of Surah Bara’ah.

Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him)—who was the freed slave of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him)—narrates: Once I presented some dates to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). People began to take and eat two or three dates at a time. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Do not eat by combining them in this way (rather, eat one at a time).”

Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) says that he used to serve the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was very pleased with his service. Therefore, on one occasion, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) was told:“Abu Bakr! Free Sa’d.”He submitted:“O Messenger of Allah! We have no one else to do the household work.”The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Free Sa’d, soon captives will come to you.”
