It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that we were with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) when he made many supplications, which we could not remember. So we said: (O Messenger of Allah!) You have made many supplications which we cannot remember. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you something that will gather all those supplications for you? (You should supplicate like this): 'O Allah! Indeed, we ask You for that which Your Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked You for, and we seek refuge with You from that from which Your Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sought refuge. O Allah! Only from You is help sought, and You alone are the One who guides to the desired goal. There is no power to avoid sin nor strength to do good except by Allah’s help.'" Or as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said.
