Abu Lubaid said: During the governorship of Hajjaj and Hakam bin Ayyub over Basra, there was a horse race. We reached the place of the race and the horses arrived, so it occurred to us that we should ask the servant of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, our master Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, about this matter: Did the companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, place bets on horses during his time? So we went to meet him; he was at that time in his residence in the corner. We asked him and said: O Abu Hamzah! Did you people place bets on horses during the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him? And did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, also place bets? Our master Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, replied: Yes, by Allah, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, placed a bet on his horse which was called Subhah, and it won over all others. Upon this, he was very pleased and liked it very much.

Imam Darimi, may Allah have mercy on him, said: The meaning of «انهشه» is the same as «اعجبه» .
