Chapter: The Prophet’s ﷺ name and kunyah
Hadith Number: 650
650/842 (صحيح) عن جابر قال: ولد لرجل منا غلام، فسماه القاسم، فقالت الانصار: لا نكنيك ابا القاسم، ولا ننعمك عينا، فاتى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقال له ما قالت [الانصار]. فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم:" احسنت الانصار؛ تسموا باسمي، ولا تكتنوا بكنيتي؛ فإنما انا قاسم".
650/842 (Sahih) From Jabir who said: A man among us had a boy born to him, so he named him al-Qasim. The Ansar said: "We will not give you the kunya Abu al-Qasim, nor will we let you be delighted." So he went to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and told him what [الأنصار] had said. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "The Ansar have done well; name yourselves with my name, but do not take my kunya, for I am al-Qasim."
