Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that when the Noble Qur’an was being revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he wished to memorize it as it was being revealed. Upon this, Allah revealed this verse: «﴿لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِ o إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُ وَقُرْآنَهُ o فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ﴾ [القيامة: 16-18] » “Do not move your tongue with it to hasten it. Indeed, upon Us is its collection and its recitation. So when We have recited it, then follow its recitation.”
