It is narrated from Hazrat Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that I participated in a battle with the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The people faced a difficulty (the chief of the hypocrites) Abdullah bin Ubayy said, "If we return to Madinah, the more honorable will surely expel the more humble from there." I came to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of what he had said. Abdullah bin Ubayy swore that he had not said any such thing. My people began to blame me and said, "What was your purpose in this?" I returned from there, saddened, and lay down to sleep. Shortly after, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent for me through a messenger. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Allah Almighty has revealed your excuse and established your truthfulness," and this verse was revealed: "They say, 'Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allah... If we return to Madinah, the more honorable will surely expel the more humble from there.'"
