Ubadah bin Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) says that once I was with Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), when a man passed by who was being beaten at the door of Hazrat Aisha’s house for drinking wine. When Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) heard the commotion of the people, she asked,“What is this matter?”I told her that a man has been caught intoxicated with wine and is being beaten. She said,“Subhan Allah! I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: ‘Whoever drinks wine is not a believer at the time he is drinking wine; whoever commits adultery is not a believer at the time he is committing adultery; whoever steals is not a believer at the time he is stealing; and whoever plunders a valuable thing—something that makes people raise their heads to look at it—is not a believer at the time he is plundering it. So avoid these acts, avoid them.’”
