Hadith Number: 6729
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the occasion of the Battle of Hunayn, when the delegation of Banu Hawazin came to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), I was also present there. The people of the delegation said, "O Muhammad! (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) We are people of lineage and family. Please show kindness to us, may Allah show kindness to you, and the calamity that has befallen us is not hidden from you." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Choose one from your women, children, and wealth." They said, "You have given us the choice regarding our honor and wealth; we prefer our children over wealth." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "What is for me and for Banu Abdul Muttalib will be for you. When I have finished the Zuhr prayer, then stand up and say: 'We request intercession from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) before the Muslims regarding our women and children, and from the Muslims before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).'" So they did so. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "What is for me and for Banu Abdul Muttalib is for you." The Muhajirun said, "What is for us is for the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)." The Ansar also said the same. Uyaina bin Badr said, "What is for me and for Banu Fazarah is not included." Aqra bin Habis said, "I and Banu Tamim are also not included in this." Abbas bin Mirdas said, "I and Banu Sulaym are also not included in this." The people of both tribes said, "You are wrong; this is for the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "O people! Return to them their women and children. Whoever wants to keep any item from the spoils of war, then from the first spoils of war that come to us, six shares from it are our responsibility." Saying this, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) mounted his ride, and some people clung to him and said, "Distribute the spoils of war among us," until they forced the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to take shelter under an acacia tree. Meanwhile, someone even snatched the blessed cloak of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Return my cloak to me. By Allah, if there were as many animals as the number of trees in Tihamah, I would distribute them among you, and still you would not find me miserly, cowardly, or a liar." After this, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went near his camel, took a hair from its hump, held it between his index and middle finger, raised it and said: "O people! Other than the khums, I have no share in this booty, not even this hair, and the khums is also returned to you. Therefore, if anyone has taken even a needle or thread, let him return it, for betrayal in the spoils of war will be a cause of shame for the betrayer on the Day of Resurrection, a means of entering Hell, and the worst of defects." Hearing this, a man stood up who had a bunch of hair and said, "I have taken this so that I may fix the saddle of my camel." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "What is for me and for Banu Abdul Muttalib is for you as well." He said, "O Messenger of Allah! Now that it has come to this, I have no need for it," and he threw it away.
