Zaid bin Wahb narrates that once a group of Khawarij from Basra came to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), among them was a man named Ja'd bin Ba'jah. He said, "Ali! Fear Allah, you too will die one day." He (Ali) replied, "No, rather I will be martyred. It will be a single blow that will strike my head and color this beard. This is a settled matter and a decided thing, and the person who fabricates lies will be at loss." Then that man took out some insects from Sayyiduna Ali's (may Allah be pleased with him) garment, so he (Ali) said, "What concern do you have with my garment? It is far from arrogance and worthy that Muslims follow me in this matter."
