Hadith Number: 710
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "I do not say to you" that you are forbidden from wearing a gold ring, silk, or clothes dyed with safflower, and from reciting the Noble Qur'an in the state of bowing (ruku’). And once, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gifted me a silk garment. I wore it and went out, so he said: "Ali! I did not give it to you so that you would wear it yourself." So I took it and went back to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) and handed one edge of it to her so that she would pull it with me, and thus I tore it into two pieces. Seeing this, Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "What has happened to you? What have you done?" I said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has forbidden me from wearing this garment, so now you make a dress for yourself from it, and give it to the women of the house as well."
