164| Chapter on the concession to eat them when necessary
Hadith Number: 1672
Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I ate garlic, then I came to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and I found him in the state that he had already performed one rak‘ah. Then, when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) completed the prayer, I stood up and began to complete my prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sensed the smell of garlic and said:“Whoever has eaten this vegetable should not come near our mosque until its smell is gone.”When I completed my prayer, I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said,“O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), I have an excuse (for eating garlic). Please give me your blessed hand, you will find this matter easy.”So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave me his blessed hand. I put the blessed hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) inside my sleeve and placed it on my chest, so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) realized that (my stomach was tied due to hunger). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Indeed, (in this state of necessity, for you) there is an excuse for eating garlic.”
