Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that a man from Banu Mudlij had a slave woman, from whom he had a son. That man used to make the slave woman serve him. When the boy grew up, one day the man called the slave woman and said,“Do such and such work.”The boy said,“She will not come to you. How long will you keep commanding my mother?”The father, in anger, threw a sword at him, which struck his leg or some other part of his body and cut it. The boy bled and died. That man came to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) with a group of his people. Umar said,“O enemy of your own soul! You yourself have killed your son. If I had not heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that a father is not to be killed in retaliation for his son, I would have killed you. Pay the blood money (diyah).”The narrator says: The man brought one hundred and twenty or thirty camels to Umar, and Umar selected one hundred camels from them and distributed them among the heirs, excluding the father.
