Section on What Has Been Reported Regarding Command and Prohibition Concerning Fara' and 'Atirah
Hadith Number: 4727
عن ابي هريرة رضي الله عنه قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم لا فرع ولا عتيرة قال ابن شهاب والفرع كان اهل الجاهلية يذبحون اول نتاج يكون لهم والعتيرة ذبيحة رجب
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no Fara’ and no ‘Atirah. Ibn Shihab said: Fara’ refers to the first offspring born, which the people of ignorance used to slaughter, and the sacrifice of Rajab is called ‘Atirah.
