Chapter on the Time of 'Aqiqah, Naming the Newborn, Shaving His Head, and Giving Charity Equal to the Weight of His Hair in Silver
Hadith Number: 4734
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Sayyida Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) gave birth to Sayyiduna Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him), she said:“Should I not offer a sacrifice and perform ‘aqiqah for my son?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:“No, rather shave his head and then give charity in silver equal to the weight of his hair to the poor and the weak.”These weak people were some needy individuals among the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who used to stay in the mosque or on the platform (Suffah). The wording of Abu Nazr’s narration is as follows:“Spend this silver on the weak, that is, the people of Suffah and the poor.”Sayyida says:“So I did so, and then when Husayn was born, I did the same.”
