Explanation of Impediments to Marriage
باب حكم الوليمة واستحبابها بالشاة فأكثر وجوازها بدونها
Chapter: Ruling on the Wedding Feast, Its Recommendation with a Sheep or More, and Its Permissibility Without It
Hadith Number: 7031
عن ابن بريدة عن ابيه رضي الله عنه قال لما خطب علي فاطمة رضي الله عنها قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم إنه لا بد للعرس من وليمة قال فقال سعد علي كبش وقال فلان علي كذا وكذا من ذرة
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraidah Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a marriage proposal to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: After marriage, a wedding feast (walimah) is necessary. Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will give a sheep. Another said: I will give such and such amount of corn.
