قوله تعالى: {يا أيها الذين آمنوا إنما الخمر والميسر والأنصاب والأزلام رجس من عمل الشيطان فاجتنبوه لعلكم تفلحون * إنما يريد الشيطان أن يوقع بينكم العداوة والبغضاء فى الخمر والميسر ويصدكم عن ذكر الله وعن الصلاة فهل أنتم منتهون} إلى قوله {والله يحب المحسنين} .
His (Allah's) saying: {O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone altars [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful. Satan only wants to cause between you animosity and hatred through intoxicants and gambling and to avert you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer. So will you not desist
Hadith Number: 823
نا نا سفيان , قال: نا عمرو، عن يحيى بن جعدة، سمعته يقول: قال عثمان على المنبر: " إياكم والخمر، فإنها مفتاح لكل شر، وإن رجلا ممن كان قبلكم قيل: إما ان تسجد لهذا الصليب، وإما ان تحرق هذا الكتاب، وإما ان تقتل هذا الصبي، وإما ان تصيب هذه المراة، وإما ان تشرب هذه الكاس الخمر، فراى انها اهون عليه فلما شربها فعل ذلك، سجد للصليب، وحرق الكتاب، وقتل الصبي، واصاب من المراة" .
Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said from the pulpit: Beware of wine, for it is the key to every evil. And among you, there was a man from those before you, to whom it was said: Either prostrate to this cross, or burn this book, or kill this child, or commit adultery with this woman, or drink wine from this cup. So he considered drinking wine to be the lightest of these, and when he drank the wine, he did all of them: he prostrated to the cross, burned the book, killed the child, and committed adultery with the woman.
