Chapter on Nullifiers of Ablution – Report indicating that the command to perform ablution after touching the private part refers to the ablution required for prayer
Hadith Number: 1115
اخبرنا الفضل بن الحباب الجمحي ، قال: حدثنا مسلم بن إبراهيم ، قال: حدثنا علي بن المبارك ، عن هشام بن عروة ، عن ابيه، عن بسرة ، قالت: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " من مس فرجه، فليعد الوضوء" . قال ابو حاتم: لو كان المراد منه غسل اليدين قال بعض الناس: لما قال صلى الله عليه وسلم:" فليعد الوضوء إذ الإعادة لا تكون إلا للوضوء الذي هو للصلاة.
Busrah narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever touches his private part should perform ablution again." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) If what was meant was to wash both hands, as some people have said, then the Prophet (peace be upon him) would not have said: "Perform ablution again," because only that ablution can be repeated which is done for prayer.
