Qais bin Talq narrates from his father: We, a group of six men, came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a delegation. Five of us belonged to Banu Hanifa and the sixth person was from the tribe of Dhabiah bin Rabi’ah. When we presented ourselves before the Prophet (peace be upon him), we accepted Islam at his blessed hand. We performed prayer behind him. We informed him that there was a church in our area. We requested him to grant us the leftover water from his ablution. So the Prophet (peace be upon him) called for water and performed ablution with it, rinsed his mouth, and then poured the water into a vessel for us. Then he said: Take this water, and when you reach your area, demolish that church, sprinkle this water at its place, and build a mosque there. We said: Our area is very far; this water will dry up. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Keep adding more water to it, for as a result, its purity will only increase. The narrator says: We set out, and we disagreed about who would carry the vessel of water, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) assigned each of us a turn for one day and one night. We took it with us until we reached our area, and then we did as the Prophet (peace be upon him) had commanded us. The priest of that people was a man from the tribe of Tay. When we gave the call to prayer, the priest said: This is the call of truth. Then he ran away and was never seen again.
