Section on voluntary prayers – mentioning the prohibition of praying voluntary prayers when overcome by sleep, fearing one might say what he does not know
Hadith Number: 2493
حدثنا ابو يعلى ، قال: حدثنا ابو خيثمة ، قال: حدثنا يزيد بن هارون ، قال: اخبرنا حميد ، عن انس ، ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم دخل المسجد، فراى حبلا ممدودا بين ساريتين، فقال:" ما هذا؟" قالوا: فلانة تصلي فإذا اعيت تعلقت به، فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " لتصل ما عقلت، فإذا خشيت ان تغلب فلتنم" .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the mosque and saw a rope tied between two pillars. He inquired: What is this? The people replied: This is for such-and-such woman; when she performs prayer and becomes tired, she holds on to it. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: She should pray as long as she is energetic; when she fears that sleep is overcoming her, then she should go to sleep.
