Chapter on Sighting the Crescent - Refuting the claim that only Simak ibn Harb narrated this report and that its elevation is not preserved
Hadith Number: 3447
اخبرنا الحسن بن سفيان ، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن عبد الرحمن السمرقندي ، قال: حدثنا مروان بن محمد ، عن ابن وهب ، عن يحيى بن عبد الله بن سالم ، عن ابي بكر بن نافع ، عن ابيه ، عن ابن عمر ، قال: " تراءى الناس الهلال، فرايته، فاخبرت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فصام، وامر الناس بصيامه" .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The people tried to sight the new moon of the first (of the month), and I saw it. I informed the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) about it, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fasted and ordered the people to fast as well.
