A narration that some mistakenly thought means a son’s wealth belongs to the father
Hadith Number: 4262
Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: A man came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He was having a dispute with his father regarding a debt that he was to take from his father. So the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "You and your wealth belong to your father." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says): This means: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) rebuked this person for behaving with his father in a manner that is adopted with strangers, and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) ordered him to do good to his father and to adopt gentleness in conversation and behavior with his father, to the extent that he (peace be upon him) combined this person's wealth with his father's wealth and said to him: "You and your wealth belong to your father." By this is meant that the father becomes the owner of his son's wealth during the son's lifetime, even if the son is not pleased with this in this regard.
