Chapter on Setting Out and the Manner of Jihad – On the description of the best armies and companions.
Hadith Number: 4717
اخبرنا احمد بن علي بن المثنى ، قال: حدثنا ابو خيثمة ، قال: حدثنا وهب بن جرير ، قال: حدثنا ابي ، قال: سمعت يونس بن يزيد الايلي ، يحدث عن الزهري ، عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله ، عن ابن عباس ، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: " خير الصحابة اربعة، وخير السرايا اربعمائة، وخير الجيوش اربعة آلاف، ولن يغلب اثنا عشر الفا من قلة" .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The best companions are four individuals. The best small expedition consists of four hundred people, and the best army consists of four thousand people, and twelve thousand people are not overcome due to being few in number."
