Hospitality – Permissibility of accepting an invitation to a simple meal
Hadith Number: 5293
اخبرنا الحسن بن سفيان ، حدثنا هدبة بن خالد ، حدثنا همام بن يحيى ، حدثنا قتادة ، عن انس بن مالك ، ان خياطا بالمدينة دعا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم على خبز شعير، وإهالة سنخة، وكان فيها قرع، قال انس: فكنت ارى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم " يعجبه القرع، قال: فكنت اقدمه بين يديه، فلم يزل القرع يعجبني منذ رايته يعجبه صلى الله عليه وسلم .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: There was a tailor in Madinah Munawwarah. He invited the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to a meal in which there was barley bread and roasted meat with pumpkin mixed in it. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I saw that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) liked pumpkin, so I began to bring the pumpkin closer to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Since I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) liking it, I have always liked pumpkin as well.
